Biodegradable -

Capable of being broken down especially into innocuous products by the action of living things (as microorganisms)

Carbon Footprint -

the total amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases emitted over the full life cycle of a product or service. It is usually expressed as grams of CO2 equivalents, which accounts for the different global warming effects of different greenhouse gases.

FSC -

Forest Stewardship Council is a non-profit embership-based organization devoted to encouraging the responsible  management of the world's forests through developing standards, a certification system.

Greenwash -

is a term used to describe an organization, government or company that represents that it has green practices when its actions are the opposite.

LEED -

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings.

Photovoltaic -

 A photovoltaic or solar cell is a device that converts light energy into electric energy.

Sustainability -

Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.  

A classic definition of sustainability is the triple bottom line: economy, ecology, and equity.

VOC -

Volatile Organic Compounds are gases emitted from certain solids or liquids; they may be hazardous to health. 
Examples include:, cleaning supplies, paints and lacquers, pesticides, building materials …
